a quick fix of melancholy

I have never had a satisfactory failure mode. It was either unalloyed success or self-destruction. I was giving you a chance to change the ending, but you’re not taking. As the day draws near, the rest of the world melts away, and I watch with detached fascination the passing of all the things that used to matter. We think we have to go to class, do homework, publish papers, go to meetings, have-to-have-to-busy-busy life is an emergency.

Drink cup of looseleaf Darjeeling. Fold newspaper under arm. Unfold ivory-handled umbrella. Step off cliff and be free.
